BUILT in 1538. The Red Lion is one of the oldest buildings in the area and the second oldest in Stanstead Abbotts. It started life as a monastery, then a coaching inn and now new owners Mass and Mel want to continue its great name as one of the best pubs in the area. Mass and Mel took over the Red Lion in October 2005 and have undertaken an ambitious refurbishment plan to help reinstate the character of the pub. It reopened in November 2006. The pub offers great food in a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. Customers are spoilt for choice with a selection of delicious dishes, freshly cooked, using local suppliers, with a superb range of wines and beer to complement your meal, whether you’re thinking of a family celebration or a quiet snack or two. We serve a traditional roast on Sundays from £8.95 and a children's menu with all the kids favourites is available through out the week. There is a patio garden at the rear of the building as well as a large garden with an adventure play area for kids which will be ready as of July 2007. You can always rest assured you’ll be given a warm welcome, whether a regular or visiting for the first time. The Red Lion is happy to cater for private functions so give us a call to discuss details or complete the on-line form and we'll respond as soon as possible.
